Curly Tail Panther Touir on the Devils River - April 3, 2010
Friday, March 5, 2010

Come join a Rock Art Foundation guide for an adventure tour to Curly Tail Panther.  Located high on a cliff above the Devils River this tour takes you to a site that truly emphasizes “place” in the rock art of the ancient people who created the paintings.

This tour is not for the faint of heart or anyone who has difficult traversing rugged terrain and narrow ledges.  The hike is short, but difficult.  This is not rock climbing, but does require stamina and balance to walk a narrow rock ledge leading to the site.  At “the ledge” almost everyone stops and a few just won’t go on.  At this point you are within sight of the rock art.

Please keep in mind that you will be in a remote location where response to serious injuries and medical emergencies will be difficult and lengthy.  Please be physically prepared for this hike.

On the morning of the tour meet your guide just west of Del Rio, Texas, at the store/gas station/café at the intersection of Hwy 90 and Hwy 277/377.  No special vehicle is needed for this tour.  Any car can drive to the parking area above the rock art site.  Once we leave the meeting site there are no conveniences.  Bring food and water.  No pets.

The requested donation for this tour is $35 per person and is limited to 15 people. All Rock Art Foundation tours must be paid in advance to insure your reservation.  Please make your reservations by giving us your payment instructions at http://www.fellowpages.org/rockart/tours.cfm . You will receive a payment/reservation confirmation. Last minute reservations and walk-on’s can only be accepted depending on available tour space. Only those paid in advance are guaranteed a place on the tour.  Cancellations with a full refund are accepted no later than 7 days prior to the tour.  Cancellations on the part of the RAF or weather will be refunded in full – most tours are cancelled in the event of rain.  An on-call list will be kept for tours which fill up and you will be notified of openings in order of your inquiry. Payment can also be made by check sent to The Rock Art Foundation, P.O. Box 702052, San Antonio, TX, 78270-2052.
